When you’re racing against the clock to find a cure for a sudden zombie outbreak, there’s only one thing you need. Ok…one thing you need besides a Zombie Survival Kit. You need a sick watch.
And not just any sick watch — for Brad Pitt’s retired UN investigator in World War Z, costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo wanted one that was ahead of its time. “I researched many important watch companies, and many famous ones came to the bids,” Mayes recalled to OSS. “[But] I felt that it was time to research a new, upcoming, and great company, so I chose Terra Cielo Mare.”
TCM, an independent watchmaker based in Italy, produces Swiss-made timepieces handcrafted from superior materials like scratch-resistant sapphire and surgical-quality steel.
“As soon as I contacted with them they got onto a plane bound to London from Milan, Italy with watches for the main character,” the costumer designer said of the partnership. The model she chose for Brad to wear, the “PVD” design from TCM’s Orienteering Collection, “is a functional watch with many features for heavy globetrotters just ike UN official, Gerry Lane,” Mayes said.
And, according to the company’s website, this type of watch is meant for “the person who always wants to have a full awareness of the place where he is located, without relying on electronic or magnetic tools.” Perhaps they should consider adding this new footnote: “May or may not help user evade uber-creepy, blood-sucking undead humans.”
