Ignoring Carrie’s dad and gum chewer in meditation class (annoying), the Mouse storyline (boring), Maggie getting a fake ID (uneventful), and Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) playing Larissa for the day (kind of cute but a little bland), the real star of The Carrie Diaries (Season 1, Episode 11, “Identity Crisis“) this week was Walt (Brendan Dooling).
His heart-to-heart with Carrie late night in the Interview offices was probably one of the most authentic scenes on the CW series yet.
“What if I’m not who I thought I was?” He asked nervously, before adding, “I feel like I’m struggling who I want to be with.”
His confession about not even being able to say the word “gay” because of the stigma it comes with is was heartbreaking. Not to mention, it’s crazy how perfectly timed this episode’s air date was considering the battle currently going on in the Supreme Court over same-sex marriage.
Bravo to Team Carrie Diaries for taking us back down to earth with Walt’s sexual identity crisis and reminding us just how real a friend Carrie Bradshaw can be when you let her.
