It wasn’t the talk of a mustard company or the way Hannah (Lena Dunham) told her dinner party guests not to leave while wielding a knife in an apron that said, “This Mama Cooks.” No neither of those random events had me laughing out loud during the latest edition of Girls (Season 2, episode 4 “It’s a Shame About Ray“).
It was the moment when the conversation died down and Marnie (Allison Williams) practically out of nowhere looked at Charlie’s girlfriend, Audrey (Audrey Gelam), and said with a serious face, “So where do you get your headbands?”
It’s like exact kind of bitchy comment that later led Audrey to claim that Marnie was “a stepford psycho.” This retort came only seconds after a dinner-table conversation about butt plugs and other sexual escapades related to the “butt hole.”
Thankfully, Jessa’s (Jemima Kirke) meal with her new in-laws was a lot less uncomfortable. That is until she unabashedly admitted she’d been to rehab for a heroine addiction.
No, ifs, ands, or butts (get it?) about it: this show continues to push the limits …the limits, that is, of words I am actually willing to type on this very website.
