Contrary to its title, last night’s Girls (Season 1, Episode 6, “Boys“) was all about the females for me.
Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), of course, because of her ultra-feminine style and ultra-naive commentary about Twilight. Jessa (Jemima Kirke) because it was actually refreshing to see her downtrodden instead of free-spirited and happy-go-lucky.
And then we have Hannah (Lena Dunham) and Marnie (Allison Williams). One of them was busy try to create an e-book on a looming deadline and the other was busy trying to create a relationship on a looming deadline.
Booth Jonathan’s (Jorma Taccone) was not having any part of Marnie’s you-have-to-be-my-boyfriend-because-we-are-sleeping-together speech, and Hannah couldn’t find an ounce of inspiration to start her ebook…even at an artist’s party.
Neither of these besties (or is it former besties by now? I sure hope not) wanted to admit their downfalls when they caught up on the phone later that night. It was a touching scene between the pair because you could just tell how painful it was for both of them to lie to each other.
Oh, and it was also a relief to see Marnie take off the clear plastic overlay from the outrageous dress she wore to Booth’s shin dig. In case you’re wondering, it was Lena’s idea for Allison to wear that dress, which, costume designer Jenn Rogien made herself. You can get the full story behind the plastic dress on Buzzfeed.
