Welcome to On Screen Style!

Welcome to On Screen Style! However you have found this site, I am so happy you are here. Please let me properly introduce myself and my blog…

My name is Lindsay. I’m a recent newlywed who does website content management for a PC company by day and lives and breathes entertainment, style, and fitness/healthy eating blogs by night. Oh, and I also spend many hours swooning over the cutest dog ever: our beagle, Hank.  I grew up in Florida, but after graduating college (GO GATORS!), I moved my ambitious self up to New York City with nothing but two overstuffed duffel bags and a big dream of making it in the magazine business.

After slaving away (literally) as an unpaid intern, I got my first Editorial Assistant gig at Us Weekly, but left a short while later when an opportunity at Teen People (those of us who grew up in the original boy band era— and no, that was not a reference to One Direction— will hopefully remember the younger, hipper sibling to People magazine fondly) landed in my lap.

Almost one year later, when TP was sent to the teen magazine graveyard (where the likes of Elle Girl, Jane, and CosmoGIRL! were also laid to rest), I found myself being welcomed into the mecca of pop culture: Entertainment Weekly. Three years at the magazine brought its share of highs (fondling THE tutu from “Sex and the City” and starting the Style Hunter section where I dissected costume and set design) and lows (reporting on the scene in the aftermath of Heath Ledger’s sudden death in Soho), but I loved every minute of it.

(note how young and innocent they are!)

When the rise of the digital age of journalism started to take full effect, I left EW to launch and manage a blog for MTV called Hollywood Crush. My ability to hone in on what females in the 12-to-24-year-old set yearned for was put into full swing at the MTV headquarters in Times Square. Much like a vampire would to a werewolf (yes, I went there), I attacked the “Twilight” franchise head on, reporting on just about anything and everything related to “New Moon” and “Eclipse.” (Check out a few of my costume exclusives here and here.)  I also did my fair share of live blogging the fashions seen on the red carpets of Tinseltown’s awards show circuit.

Today, following our own version of “Going the Distance,” I’ve traded in my red carpet press pass for laptops and tablets and live in North Carolina with the aforementioned hubby and doggy.

Full disclosure: More than two years out of the entertainment orbit has left a void in my heart. To this day, I still can’t watch a TV show or a movie without wanting to literally shop it (my credit card statement is proof) and share my finds with other style junkies like myself. I’ve always wondered how I could turn my obsession with these meticulous details of pop culture into a full-fledged gig, so consider this blog a new adventure for both of us!

OSS isn’t just going to be a place where clothes seen on actors will be ID’ed (though I will aim to do that as much as possible!), it’s also going to be a destination for those of you who want to mimic the living room you spotted on TV. Or the nail polish color you eyed in a movie.  In other words: I’m on a mission to take down the curtain on Hollywood’s biggest productions to tell you how to get the look and give you the backstory on costume designs, set decorations, hair & makeup techniques, and much more.

{Related side note:  OSS does not discriminate, so please don’t think this is a female-only blog. If you (or your guy) have a manly request, I am happy to oblige.  Special attention may or may not go to anything seen on or near Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Amell, Taylor Kitsch, or Henry Cavill. Just sayin’…}

Right now I don’t plan to cover any reality TV programs or fashions seen on actors when they’re in the real world and not well, on screen.

Got a question for me? An item you want to track down? A specific movie you want me to cover? I would love to hear from you! Email me (lindsay@onscreenstyle.com), send me note via the contact page, or send me a Tweet.
